PARISHIONERS' CALL

for Shared Ministry

WHAT IS PARISHIONERS' CALL?

Parishioners' Call is a movement promoting a respectful and safe space for Roman Catholic parishioners to talk and act.

It is parishioners who support and empower the Church. Without us, there is no Church.

Now it’s our call.

We call for shared ministry of women and men, married, single and celibate. We call for engaged and committed parishioners, working together as Roman Catholics and Christians.

We believe women and men are created equal in God’s image, and are called to work together to spread God’s Word.

Jesus created no priests nor any clericalism. He simply said to the women and men at the Last Supper:

‘Do this in memory of me.’

TOWARDS WHOLENESS: RE-ENVISIONING THE PRIESTHOOD

We had a wonderful meeting in Salisbury on 26th October, taking a comprehensive look at the challenges our Church faces in ministry, and exploring ways in which a renewed priesthood could bring new life and openness to it. We were helped by Mike Kerrigan, Movement for Married Clergy, Katharine Salmon from Catholic Women’s Ordination, and Mary Ring representing Women’s Ordination Worldwide.

WOMEN AT THE ALTAR? THE EVIDENCE!

Prize-winning art historian Dr Ally Katueusz held a packed room spellbound in October at Catholic Women’s Ordination in Birmingham as she outlined how she had set out on her examination of the early artistic evidence of the development of Christian liturgy. She was naturally expecting to find male priests - and found instead not only gender-parallel liturgy, but a predominance of women presiders.
